Get involved!

Collin College honors students have many opportunities to get involved with clubs and honors societies throughout the district. Transferring to a four-year college or university can be competitive and more so for honors students.  Students enhance their potential for acceptance into programs and colleges of their choosing by joining and participating in clubs and honors societies.  Most importantly, membership in scholarship societies presents students the opportunity to contribute to the betterment of Collin College and the greater Collin County community.

On-campus honors organizations include the following:

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an Honor Society which offers qualified students opportunities for internships, networking, and scholarships. Membership is by invitation, and students must maintain a 3.4 GPA or higher to be invited. The NSCS conducts an induction ceremony once a year.

For more information access the national website: NSCS.ORG

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest and most prestigious honor society among two-year colleges. Collin College enjoys a long and esteemed relationship with Phi Theta Kappa, which promotes academic achievement and offers qualified students networking and scholarship opportunities. Membership is by invitation, and students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher to be invited. PTK conducts an induction ceremony each semester.

To find out more, access the national web site: PTK.ORG

Please note: Phi Theta Kappa and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars are independent student organizations supported by the Honors Institute.  All questions about membership or events should be directed to the clubs' themselves through their websites or by contacting faculty advisors.

Keep an eye on your registration!

The Collin College Honors Institute strives to offer our students a wide variety of courses. Students registering for honors are among the first allowed to register for classes each semester, which is convenient, considering honors courses tend to fill up quickly because they are smaller than a regular course (15-18 students). From time to time an honors course may not make; an honors course may be canceled altogether or converted into a regular class. Please keep an eye on your registration during the two to three weeks prior to each semester opening. You will be able to see if a course has been converted or canceled and you may plan your schedule accordingly. As a courtesy, Honors Institute staff will contact every student regarding schedule changes.
