Telemental Health

Introduction to the principles and theories of positive mental health and human behaviors. Topics include emotional responses, coping mechanisms, and therapeutic communication skills. This course will provide an introduction to telemental health and explore how to construct a therapeutic space in different contexts when conducting telemental health, how to improve access for special populations, and how to develop an evidence base and best practice in telemental health.

This course will prepare students to use the benefits of telemental health, in multiple aspects of e-health across diverse clinical settings. Emphasis will be placed on providing evidence-based, and telemental health in a way that is comparable to usual care, not a "second best" option. Students will learn to provide excellent care for clients from settings outside of the clinic, and/or hospital.  Students will also learn about the current technologies and tools available for remote patients care. Learners will gain knowledge in the legal provisions for telehealth implementation. Each student will also be informed of the risks of remote healthcare provisions, and cross border care.
