Collin College Presents National Novel Writing Month Kickoff with Author Kimberly Garza

Collin College will launch National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with author Kimberly Garza as the keynote speaker from 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Frisco Campus Conference Center. The event will include dinner and interactive activities aimed at helping participants gear up for a month of writing. The event is free and open to the public.

Garza is the author of the novel The Last Karankawas. Her stories and essays have appeared in Electric Literature, LitHub, Houston Chronicle, Copper Nickel, and elsewhere. She holds degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Texas, where she earned a Ph.D. in 2019. A native Texan hailing from Galveston and raised in Uvalde, she currently serves as an associate professor of creative writing and literature at The University of Texas at San Antonio. 

The Last Karankawas will be available for purchase at the Frisco Campus bookstore and during the event, with an opportunity for attendees to have their copies signed by Garza.
